So, what's all this about?
Schismatise.com is my personal website and as such is an expression of myself and my interests, in all their random glory. As of now (july 2008) I intend to use this website mainly to store and keep track of my "work", by which I really mean my hobbies. If at some point in the future my hobbies become "work", then I may also decide to use it as a business card, to advertise myself & my services and keep people up to date on whatever I'm doing.. but for now, it's just my own private little piece of the internet.
Who are you then?
My name is Dean, and I live on the north coast of NSW in Australia. It's a nice place, msot of the time. I'm 24, male, no pets.. other than my multiple personalities. Basically though, I'm just another human living out my existance. I could attempt to compact everything that is me and unleash it to the world in the form of a sentance, but I've given up trying to do that as it usually leads to disappointment. Suffice to say, I'm complicated. Then again.. aren't we all.
So what exactly do you do?
Well, for starters, I'm a qualified web designer, and although I have only a few years experience, I seem to have a gift for both the technical back-end of things, and the creative front-end design. My dad was in the IT business for a long time, and my brother got his first job at 19 as a programmer writing games for hand held consoles. Basically, IT runs in the family.
Ultimately though, I'm a musician. Apart from listening to music 24/7, I write and produce all sorts of music from my home studio, mostly a fusion of drum & bass / electronic / experimental / folk / jazz / progressive rock, I play the guitar (accoustic, nylon & 12-string) and I also sing. I don't know whether I'm any good or not, but I like to think I'm at least honest and original. People have told me I sound like Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley and John Mayer when I perform live, and the music I create at home takes inspiration from artists such as DJ Shadow and Radiohead. I'm also a big fan of Tool, The Mars Volta and System Of A Down. If you like your music, I advise you to check them all out. Again, my brother, mum, dad, grandfather and both my cousins (yes, I only have 2) all either play, write or sing music, or a combination of the 3. Music definately runs in our family.
Among my other talents and interests (I seem to have a few don't I), I'm a bit of an artist, an even littler bit of a writer (my dad and his mother have also written a few books between them), and I'm quite interested in one day exploring my interests in game design. I love designing things, no matter what they are, but I'm fascinated by the strategy and witts that some games can require and the competetive scene that they create. I like to think of it as intellectual stimulation, combined with the opportunity to prove that you're better than someone else at something often completely unrelated to life, purely for the sake of enjoyment. Sounds good to me!
